"Eyeglasses for Orphans" projects shows successful local involvement

February 22, 2004 -- In preparation for its future independence, the YARBOO Advisory Council is working to fund initiatives through local resources. At its recent Orphanage Arts Festival, a donations box collected $660 to purchase eyeglasses for orphans with poor vision. Further appeals garnered an additional $470.

Coincidentally, a local private ophthalmologist, after watching a television report on the Arts Festival, offered his pro bono services. Dr. Alexander Tichov, city Duma member and owner of a private laser eye clinic, has since examined all orphanage children with poor vision and augmented Advisory Council funds to provide the necessary eyeglasses for the children.
